Privacy policy

BimmerByte is an independent enthusiast project. This policy explains what data we collect when you use the coding assistant, what we do with it, and who else sees it.

What we collect

• Account. Your email address, collected when you sign in (handled by Supabase Auth).
• Coding queries. The question you type, your tool selection, and any vehicle identifiers you provide (VIN, chassis code, year, model). Follow-up messages on the same query are stored alongside the original.
• Usage counters. Number of queries used, plan tier, and rough timestamps so we can enforce free and paid limits.
• Standard request logs. IP address and user-agent, retained briefly for abuse prevention and basic diagnostics.

How we use it

• To generate your coding answer (your question is sent to Google's Gemini API).
• To remember a query so you can ask follow-ups against the same context.
• To enforce your remaining free quota or paid plan.
• To find and fix prompt or product issues in aggregate.

Who else sees it

• Supabase hosts our authentication and database — your email, query text, and usage rows are stored there.
• Google Gemini API receives the text of your question, your tool selection, and vehicle info as part of the prompt that generates your answer. Treat anything you type as if Google can see it; do not include personal data beyond what is needed to identify the car.
• PayPal processes paid subscriptions. When you upgrade, PayPal handles the checkout and recurring billing on its own pages; we never see or store your card or bank details. PayPal shares back the minimum we need — your email, subscription ID and status, and renewal events — so we can keep your plan in sync.

We do not sell your data. We do not run advertising or third-party analytics trackers.

Cookies

We use a single auth session cookie so you stay signed in. No marketing, advertising, or cross-site tracking cookies are set by BimmerByte.

Retention

Queries and follow-ups are retained while your account exists so you can revisit them. Request logs are retained briefly for abuse prevention. You can ask us to delete your account and associated queries at any time — see the contact details below.

Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct, export, or delete the personal data we hold about you. Email the contact below and we'll respond within a reasonable period.

Children

BimmerByte is not directed at users under 16. Do not use the service if you are under 16.
